1. About this cookie policy
This cookie policy explains how MathMax ("we", "us"), operated by Que?! Communicatie, uses cookies and similar technologies on https://www.getmathmax.com and in the MathMax application. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and how you can manage them.
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer, phone or tablet. Besides cookies, we use similar technologies such as local storage, in which information is saved by your browser on your device (for example to keep your game progress). In this policy, "cookies" also refers to these similar technologies.
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to make MathMax work properly and securely, to remember your settings (such as language and currency) and your game progress on your device, to keep you signed in to a paid account, to process subscription payments, and to protect our sign-up and password forms against automated abuse. Only if you accept, we also use Google Analytics cookies on the public pages of our website to understand how visitors find and use them.
3. Your consent
- Strictly necessary cookies are required for MathMax to function and are placed without consent.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are placed only if you press “Accept cookies” on our cookie banner, and only on the public pages of our website — such as the home page, pricing, information and topic pages, and these policies. They are never placed in the game, on the sign-in pages or on any page you see once signed in.
- Refusing is as easy as accepting: “Decline non-essential cookies” sits next to “Accept cookies”, and nothing is loaded while you have not chosen. You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every public page; if you withdraw your consent, we stop Google Analytics and delete its cookies from your browser. We remember your choice for 24 months and then ask again. This follows Spanish law (LSSI) and the GDPR.
4. Cookies we use
We use the cookies and similar technologies set out in the table below.
| Cookie / technology | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| access_token / refresh_token | MathMax | Keep you signed in to your paid account. | Strictly necessary (for paid features) | 15 minutes / 7 days |
| checkout_credential | MathMax | Keeps you recognised while you choose and pay for a plan, before your account has one. | Strictly necessary | 15 minutes |
| NEXT_LOCALE | MathMax | Remembers your language choice. | Functional | Up to 1 year |
| currency | MathMax | Remembers the currency you chose for prices. | Functional | 1 year |
| oauth_in_progress / oauth_next | MathMax | Secure the sign-in flow when you sign in with an external provider (for example Google). | Strictly necessary | 10 minutes |
| pending_plan / pending_plan_context / pending_plan_next | MathMax | Remember the plan you selected while you create your account and verify your email. | Strictly necessary | 1 hour |
| pending_claim | MathMax | Remembers the creator invitation you opened while you create your account and verify your email. | Strictly necessary | 24 hours |
| mm_consent | MathMax | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we do not ask again on every page. | Strictly necessary | 24 months |
| Payment cookies | Stripe | Process subscription payments securely and help prevent payment fraud during checkout. | Necessary for payment (third party) | Per Stripe's cookie policy |
| reCAPTCHA | Protects the sign-up, password-reset and email-verification forms against bots and automated abuse. It is not loaded on the children's sign-in page, which loads nothing from any third party. | Strictly necessary (security, third party) | Per Google's cookie policy | |
| _ga / _ga_<ID> | Google (Google Analytics) | Only after you accept, and only on the public pages of our website: distinguishes visits so we can count how visitors find and use those pages. Never set in the game or on signed-in pages, and not used for advertising. | Analytics (only with your consent, third party) | Up to 2 years |
| Game progress and settings (local storage) | MathMax — stored on your device | Saves your game progress and settings when you play without an account, and remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice. It also keeps on how many days the game has been opened on this device; we receive that only as a range, never as anything that identifies the device. | Functional | Until you clear it |
Note: exact cookie names and durations can vary per provider and over time. We verify the live list periodically and keep this table up to date.
5. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are placed by third parties that provide services to us: our payment provider (Stripe), which processes subscription payments during checkout, and Google (reCAPTCHA), which protects our sign-up, password-reset and email-verification forms — and which is loaded only on those pages, never on the children's sign-in page. We do not control these third-party cookies. You can find more information in the privacy and cookie statements of the providers concerned. Only if you accept analytics cookies, Google (Google Analytics) also places cookies on the public pages of our website, to help us understand how those pages are used; its advertising features are switched off.
We do not use advertising or profiling cookies, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.
6. Managing, blocking and deleting cookies
- You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to warn you when a cookie is placed.
- Clearing cookies or local storage may affect how MathMax works — for example, you may be signed out or lose game progress saved on your device.
7. Your privacy rights
Where cookies process personal data, you have the right to access, rectify, restrict and erase that data, to object to processing, and to data portability. You can exercise these rights by emailing privacy@getmathmax.com. To prevent misuse, we may ask you to confirm your identity. How we handle personal data is described in full in our Privacy Policy.
8. Changes to this cookie policy
We may update this cookie policy from time to time, for example when we change the website or the tools we use, or when the rules on cookies change. The latest version is always available on this page, so please review it regularly.
9. Contact
If you have any questions or comments about this cookie policy, please contact us at privacy@getmathmax.com.
